Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at IVCC Invitational

La Salle, IL—The first day of the autumn saw the Governors State men's golf team take part in the IVCC Invitational, which was held Thursday at the Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Club.

GSU shot 333 to finish fifth out of eight teams. Bryant & Stratton (310) captured the team title and Highland CC (311) won a second-place tie over Black Hawk CC (311). Illinois Central CC (320) took fourth, followed by Governors State (333), Sauk Valley CC (338), Rock Valley CC (345) and Illinois Valley CC (349). Luke Lofgren of Black Hawk earned medalist honors as the lone golfer in the field to break 70 (69).

First-year Alex Cortez led GSU into the clubhouse with a 78. The remaining four scorers for GSU were separated by one stroke: Hillel Watkins (84), Adam Taylor (85), Rowdy Frey (86) and Kevin Kompier (87). Tyler Bannon logged a 103.

GSU will again travel to the west side of the state next week, taking part in the NAIA Preview at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois on Monday and Tuesday.
