GSU in 15th Place at NAIA Midwest Invitational

SILVIS, IL—Governors State opened play at the NAIA Midwest Invitational by shooting 354—good enough for 15th place. The 36-hole tournament concludes tomorrow at TPC Deer Run. Indiana Wesleyan (296), Marian (299) and Mount Mercy (300) led the 16-team field.

Cool and windy conditions made the par-71, 6,502-yard course challenging on Monday. Adam Taylor shot a team-low 83 to tie for 51st place. Rowdy Frey carded an 88 followed by Alex Cortez (91), Kevin Kompier (92) and Hillel Watkins (93).

Johan Wigertz of Mount Mercy owns a six-shot lead after shooting a 5-under-66.
