Women's Cross Country Signs Hillcrest Standout
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL — The Governors State women's cross country team has signed Peachshaiya (Peach) Bailey to a National Letter of Intent for the 2019 season.
Bailey was a two-sport athlete at Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills, completing three seasons of varsity track and field and volleyball. She ran sprints and relays on the track and was a defensive specialist in volleyball. An Honor Roll student, Bailey helped the Hawks to a conference championship in track as a junior.
She attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney last year but did not compete in sports. As a result, she will have four years of eligibility with the Jaguars. A native of South Holland, Illinois, Bailey plans to major in nursing at GSU, where she will be joined by her sister, Pearjiyra. Peach is the daughter of Latasha Bailey.
"Peach comes from a solid program at Hillcrest High School where she ran track and field," said GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "She has always been a runner, so the transition to distance running should be a smooth one. She is a great addition to our program as we continue to grow and improve."
GSU opens its season August 30 at the Fighting Saints Twilight Invitational.
