Women Harriers Finish Fourth at Skyhawk Invitational
DIXON, IL—With the conference championships less than a month away, the Governors State women's cross country team began its late season push Saturday with an appearance at the Skyhawk Invitational, held in ideal weather conditions on the campus of Sauk Valley Community College.
The Northwestern Track Club (21 points) captured top honors at the four-team event, followed by Carl Sandburg CC (55), North Central's split-squad (57) and Governors State (100). GSU's score was a new team record.
Elizabeth Rios earned her third best-team performance of the season with a 24th-place finish of 24:57—a personal record by 70 seconds. First-year Bailey Honn finished second on the team in her collegiate debut, clocking 26:06 for the team's fifth-best 5K time this season. Also scoring for GSU were Diamond Jones (28:11), who PRed for the second straight week and Megan Jackson (PR-28:53), who returned after missing four meets due to injury. Peachshaiya Bailey (29:25) also lowered her PR time by nearly two minutes.
"I am very proud of our ladies, their PRs, their drive, and movement today. They are really making solid lateral movement, improving on their times," said Coach Kevin Kredens.
Governors State will take part in the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede, hosted by Mount Mercy, next Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
