Women's Cross Country Team Signs Diamond Jones

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL — The Governors State women's cross country team is putting the finishing touches on its roster with the 2019 opener just two months away. The newest Jaguar is junior Diamond Jones, who signed a National Letter of Intent on campus Wednesday.

An Orland Park native, Jones is enrolled at Governors State and previously attended Prairie State College. She graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 2012. A business administration major, Diamond's career goal is to own a community art center. She is the daughter of Kathy and Victor Jones.

"I think what is special and unique about Diamond's elevation to our cross country team is that she faced a tough nearly two-week-long tryout process and kept coming back every day and her trial times kept dropping," said GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "She was listening attentively to our (mine and assistant coach Alex Moore) suggestions and training tips. You don't usually see that type of determination and commitment."

Jones is the fifth recruit to sign with GSU, joining prep teammates Megan Jackson and Avery Fountain (Bradley-Bourbonnais Community HS), Elizabeth Rios (Bloom Township HS) and Peachshaiya Bailey (Hillcrest HS).

GSU opens its season Aug. 30 at the Fighting Saints Twilight Invitational.
