GSU Women Finish Eighth at Fighting Bee Invitational

BETTENDORF, IA—It took a year but Governors State made it back to the Fighting Bee Invitational after last year's event was cancelled due to poor weather. On Saturday, the Jaguars recorded a team score of 229 to finish eighth in the competition that drew five CCAC schools. Host St. Ambrose (44) captured top honors followed by Mount Mercy (51), Trinity Christian (64), Judson (72), Roosevelt (151), Carl Sandburg CC (163), Waubonsee (187) and GSU.

Avery Fountain posted a team-best time of 24:21.7 over the five-kilometer Crow Creek Course to finish 56th overall. GSU's next three runners all set PR's: Elizabeth Rios (26:07.3), Diamond Jones (28:26.3) and Peachshaiya Bailey (31:17.8) with Jones lowering her career-best mark by almost three minutes. Also competing for the Orange and Black was former volleyball standout Milica Maras (33:05.6).

"Our ladies scored and ran as a pack, that's going to help us as a team. The conditions didn't warrant a PR day but they still ran well," stated GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens.

The Jaguars travel to the Skyhawk Invitational in Dixon, Illinois next Saturday.
