Women's Cross Country Competes at Warrior Invitational
WEST ALLIS, WI—Governors State made its first-ever trek into the Badger State on Saturday to take part in the Warrior Invitational, a six-kilometer race held at Greenfield Park. Edgewood, host Wisconsin Lutheran and Concordia (IL) earned podium finishes.
The Jaguars, who did not register a team score, were without top runner Avery Fountain, who was competing for the GSU soccer team at Judson. Representing the Orange and Black were Elizabeth Rios (31:40.20, 97th place) and Diamond Jones (36:02.19), who both set PRs at the 6K distance.
"The ladies are battling illness and injuries, but our freshman captain Liz Rios beat 38 runners, many of whom are from strong Division III programs. Diamond Jones showed improvement by also beating 13 runners from those same Division III teams," stated Head Coach Kevin Kredens.
GSU travels to Iowa next Saturday for the Fighting Bee Invitational held at Crow Creek Park, the site of last year's CCAC Championships.
