Historic Weekend Kicks Off 2024-25 Women's Bowling Season in Rockford - GSU's 2nd Season of NAIA Bowling Competition Underway.

GSU Head Women's Bowling Coach Melanie McDaniel with her end of the tournament report as it was a very successful one for the Jaguars!

"WOW! What a weekend! First time in program history that the team makes Bracket Play. First time we have a JV compete and they are in the Championship Match! How cool, said GSU Coach McDaniel.

Varsity Recap:
Day Two: The Varsity ladies worked really hard this weekend! They put together sets of 729, 820, 625 and 668. They lost some steam towards the end of the event, but never gave up!
The qualified into the bracket play in 4th place behind Saint Xavier (1), Judson University (2) and Calumet College of St. Joespeh (3).

"The girls had to bowl fellow NAIA team, Saint Xavier in the first match, best of 3. Unfortunately, we just never got a great look or comfortable on the pair and fell quickly 2-0 against SXU. The Governors State Jaguars Varsity team finished a record high of 4th place! Lead by Grad Student, Olivia Daujatas."

"These girls worked so hard, and with only 1 of the 6 girls on varsity this weekend being a returning playerwe have such a young team who are going out there, putting there all in and learning how to compete together. I couldn't be more proud of how they held their heads high at the end of the day yesterday! This team is showing a lot of strength with a long season ahead of us! The varsity team heads out next weekend, October 5-6th to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the first Tier One event of the yearThe Midwest Collegiate Championships," said Coach McDaniel.

JV Recap:
Day Two: the JV ladies worked exceptionally well together this weekend! The put sets of, 626, 734, 626 and 734! These ladies rallied the last set, as they were only 2 pins ahead of Saint Xavier to make it to the Championship Match!
The JV team qualified 2nd into the finals behind Judson University!

"The girls bowled Judson University in the finals, in a back and forth match, tying in game one, putting the match at .5-.5, the lady jaguars won match 2, but the eventually fell to champions Judson University.

These ladies worked great together as a team all weekend! They are working hard and look forward to their next event October 11-13th, The Western Shootout in Indianapolis, Indiana." said Coach McDaniel.
