Jaguars Drop Road Finale at Olivet Nazarene
BOURBONNAIS, IL—Governors State Women's Basketball lost its road finale at Olivet Nazarene, 94-76, Wednesday night but still remains alive for a CCAC postseason berth heading into its final regular season game on Saturday. GSU is tied with Trinity Christian (which owns the tie-breaker) for eighth place in the conference standings.
GSU (9-19, 8-13 CCAC) received a team-high 19 points from Cashay Dixon while Sharnita Breeze turned in a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds against the Tigers. Gaetana Davis scored 11 points in 25 minutes.
Olivet Nazarene (19-9, 16-5 CCAC) won its fourth-straight game and managed a season split against GSU behind 24 points from Kennedy Johnson and 14 points off the bench from Karina Smits.
GSU's biggest lead (nine points) occurred with 56 seconds left in the opening quarter on Kennedy Weigt's 3-pointer. ONU claimed the lead with 6:28 left in the second quarter and never trailed from that point.
GSU returns to University Park to host Roosevelt on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day and Senior Day at the ARC.
