FT. WAYNE, IN - JAGUARS WIN FIRST ROAD TEST 86-83 IN FORT WAYNE OVER ST.FRANCIS (IN) - FRESHMAN VINCENT DAVIS WITH 17 POINTS, 8 REBOUNDS

Freshman Vincent Davis led five GSU players in double figures with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Governors State University won on the road 86-83 over St. Francis (IN).

The Jaguars (2-1) led throughout the contest and had a 43-37 halftime lead and were paced by Davis' 12 points and five rebounds in the opening twenty minutes. Davis hit 5-8 FGs in the first half.

Point guard Jeremiah Johnson hit 3-3 three-pointers for nine points in the first half and Kyle Jackson scored seven points and Kendall Brasfield contributed six first half tallies.

GSU continued its lead in the second half and led by as many as 15 points (82-67) before St. Francis put on a furious comeback in the final four minutes to cut the lead to one point, 82-81 with 24 seconds remaining with a 14-0  run.

Key free throws down the stretch by Johnson and a dunk by Brasfield late won it for the Jaguars and GSU next plays in the men's-women's homecoming doubleheader Saturday in the ARC.

Johnson had 11 points, 6 assists, Lashaun Gist scored 14 points and also in double figures were Brasfield with 10 and Oluyemi Elutilo 10.

Kyle Jackson scored nine points and Nick Mikash contributed eight points in the balanced scoring Jaguar attack.

GSU women's team opens up the 2023-24 season hosting Aquinas (MI) at 1 p.m. and the GSU men host Peru State of Nebraska at 3:30 in the 2023 Homecoming games.
