ST. AMBROSE BEATS GOVERNORS STATE 81-73 IN CCAC CONFERENCE PLAY SATURDAY

Governors State lost 81-73 on the road Saturday at St. Ambrose getting back into CCAC Conference action in Iowa.

The two teams played a back and forth first half with the Fighting Bees leading at the break 34-31. Both teams struggled shooting in the first twenty minutes. GSU was 9-30 field goals (30%) and St. Ambrose shot 34% (13-38 field goals.

Ten players scored points for GSU in the first half and was led by Kendall Brasfield with 7 points (2-4 FGs, 3-4 FTs) in 7 minutes played.

In the second half, St. Ambrose (7-7, 4-2) held off GSU comebacks to within 3 and 4 points down the stretch but SAU hit late free throws to preserve the home win.

The Jaguars (5-9. 3-3 CCAC) were led in scoring by junior Tyrell Isom with 16 points, 8 rebounds in his first game this season for GSU. Isom played 24 minutes coming off the bench and hit 6-12 field goals and registered 2 blocks and 3 steals.

Brasfield scored 10 points in the game for GSU and Oluyemi Elutilo had a team-high 10 rebounds to lead the Jaguars. Twelve of the thirteen GSU players in the game scored points.

GSU will play next at St. Francis, Wednesday, Jan. 10, 7 PM in CCAC Conference play.
