PALOS HEIGHTS, Illinois  - GSU JAGUARS BASKETBALL TEAMS OPEN CCAC SEASON AT TRINITY CHRISTIAN WITH TWO ROAD WINS

GSU Women 83 Trinity Christian 47

The GSU women (3-1) were solid from start to finish beating Trinity Christian 83-47 and the men's team (3-5) beat the Trolls 81-72 in a doubleheader Jaguars sweep.

Tabetha Jones led three GSU players in double figure scoring with 21 points hitting 9-17 field goals.

Guards Angelique Cowan (11 points) and Da'Naria Washington (12 points, 7 steals, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, & hitting 5-7 field goals) joined Jones in double figures for the winners.

Governors State's defense had 17 steals, forced 24 Trinity Christian turnovers and held the Trolls to 35% shooting (18-51 field goals) in the opening game of 2023-24 CCAC play. 

The Jaguars next play at the Siena Heights Thanksgiving Tournament in Adrian, Michigan Saturday and Sunday.

GSU Men 81 Trinity Christian 72

Four GSU men's players scored in double figures led by Kyle Jackson (19 points, 9 rebounds).

Lashaun Gist (15), Vincent Davis (13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocked shots), and Jalen Levy (10) also were in doubles.

The attacking GSU lineup with all 14 players on the trip playing minutes, totaled 7 steals, 7 blocked shots and forced 16 Trinity Christian turnovers in the win.

GSU was 28-37 (75.7%) from the free throw line.

Next game for the men's team is a CCAC Conference matchup hosting Roosevelt University, Wednesday, November 29, 7 p.m. in a women's/men's 5 & 7 p.m. doubleheader in the GSU ARC.
