GSU JAGUARS WIN SEASON OPENER - 68-65 HOMECOMING WIN AT THE ARC - NEXT AT #7 CLARKE WEDNESDAY IN IOWA
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL - Governors State won its 2023 season opener and Homecoming game Saturday with a 68-65 win over Aquinas (Michigan).
Tabetha Jones led the Jaguars in scoring with 20 points, hitting 9-14 field goals and she also totaled five rebounds and five assists in the victory.
GSU led throughout the first three quarters and led 35-23 at the half before Aquinas staged a 4th quarter comeback to take the lead 60-59 with 1:21 left.
Down the stretch, key baskets by Kendall Winston, D'Naria Washington, and Jones plus free throws by Angelique Cowan and Ce'niyah Hampton sealed the Homecoming game victory.
Jones led three players in double figure scoring, Cowan scored 12 points and had four steals and Trinity Sims led the Jaguars in rebounding with 7.
GSU NEXT PLAYS at #7 Clarke (Iowa) in Dubuque, Iowa, 5:30 PM CST, Wednesday, November 8.
