#21 IU SOUTH BEND BEATS GSU 69-63 TO TAKE OVER CCAC FIRST PLACE - Jaguars (9-3, 5-1 CCAC)

UNIVERSITY PARK, Illinois --

The game matchup of the top two teams in the CCAC featured seven lead changes and the contest was tied five times.

GSU came out firing and led 19-9 after the first quarter and led 34-31 at halftime.

The two teams went back and forth at each other in the third and fourth quarters and #21 ranked IU South Bend (11-0, 6-0 CCAC) forged ahead 62-57 midway through the fourth quarter. GSU's season scoring leader Tabetha Jones fouled out with 3:38 to play and the Jaguars were traling by 5 points when Jones left the game. The Titans out-scored GSU 16-12 in the fourth quarter and 38-29 in the second half for the comeback road win.

IU South Bend scored 36 points (GSU 18) in the paint and out-rebounded the Jaguars 51-23 and won despite GSU's defense forcing 26 Titans' turnovers and limiting IU South Bend to two three-pointers (2-6).

Angelique Cowan led GSU in scoring (20 points), assists (6), steals (4) and rebounding (4) playing all 40 minutes for the Jaguars (9-3, 5-1 CCAC).

Gaetana Davis also scored in double figures for GSU (13 points, 6-8 field goals) and Jones scored 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists for the Jaguars.

Next up for Governors State is hosting the 2023 Winter Classic, December 28-29 in the ARC - the four-team tournament features game 1 -IU East vs. Missouri Baptist 1 PM and GSU vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio), 3 PM, on Thursday, December 28.
