BIG THIRD QUARTER HELPS GSU WIN 18th GAME OF SEASON - BEAT ST. AMBROSE 60-51 -Angelique Cowan moves into second place on the all-time scoring list with 1,054 points

UNIVERSITY PARK, Illinois - -

The 18th win of the season for the Jaguars was a hard-fought 60-51 win over St. Ambrose with GSU using an 18-5 scoring edge in the third quarter for the home court victory.

St. Ambrose (6-14, 6-9 CCAC) led at halftime 27-26 and the Jaguars shot a season-low 27% shooting in the first two quarters (10-37 field goals) and 0-8 three pointers in the first half.

Governors State University (18-5, 12-3) defense limited St. Ambrose to five third quarter points and held the Fighting Bees to 12.5% shooting in the quarter (2-16 field goals).

GSU NOW INTO SECOND PLACE IN CCAC STANDINGS

The home win Wednesday night and St. Xavier beating Roosevelt 70-52 on the road puts the Jaguars at 12-3 in the CCAC and one game ahead of both St. Xavier and Roosevelt (11-4 CCAC). The CCAC leader IU South Bend won again and is 23-0, 15-0 CCAC entering the final two weeks of the regular season. The top four teams in the CCAC standings will host quarterfinal playoff games, Tuesday night, February 27, game time TBA).

Tabetha Jones, GSU's scoring leader in 2023-24, led the Jaguars with a double-double Wednesday night, 18 points, 10 rebounds.

Trinity Sims led all rebounders with 14 against SAU and GSU out-rebounded the visitors 57-44 in the contest.

ANGELIQUE COWAN MOVES INTO SECOND PLACE ON THE GSU ALL-TIME SCORING LIST

Angelique Cowan scored 16 points vs. St. Ambrose and upped her career scoring total to 1,054 in the home victory.

Cowan passed Sharnita Breeze and her 1,050 career points, 2019-2022. Amber Brooks is the GSU career leader (1,567 points, 2016-21).

GSU next plays at Olivet Nazarene University, 1 PM, Saturday in Bourbonnais.

The Jaguars next home game Wednesday, February 14, 5 PM vs. St. Francis is the GSU Women's Basketball Breast Cancer Awareness Game in the ARC.
