Governors State played a solid CCAC road game at Saint Xavier Saturday and beat the Cougars 81-60. The win was number 16 on the season for GSU (ties school record for wins in 2018-2019, Coach Tmack's first season as head coach).
Both teams played well offensively in the first half and GSU (16-4, 10-2) led 42-35 at the break shooting 52% from the field (14-27) and hit 4-8 three pointers and shot 58% as a team from the field out-scoring ST. Xavier 23-16 in the second quarter.
Zareia Chevre led the way with 15 first half points and Tabetha Jones scored nine.
GSU continued playing well in the third quarter and led 62-46 after three quarters. The Jaguars are now 8-3 in road games and keep their second place standing in the CCAC behind unbeaten league leader IU South Bend (#17 ranked 20-0, 12-0 CCAC). GSU pulled away in the fourth quarter and snapped the Cougars four-game winning streak.
Chevre led the game scoring and had her second straight double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds.
Six GSU players scored in double figures: Trinity Sims 12 points, 6 rebounds, Jones 11 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, Angelique Cowan 10 points, 5 assists, Da'Naria Washington 10 points, 6 rebounds and Kendall Winston 10 points. Tatym Coe scored 5 points in her top scoring game of 2023-24.

Angelique Cowan needs three points to become GSU's third all-time 1,000 points scorer and will look to join the 1,000 point club as GSU plays next at home, Wednesday Jan. 31. 5 PM vs. Judson in the ARC.
