JAGUARS BEAT HOLY CROSS 80-66 - GSU NOW 14-3, 8-1 CCAC IN 2023-24 SEASON
NOTRE DAME, Indiana - - Governors State University won its fifth straight game beating Holy Cross College on the road at McKenna Arena 80-66.
Zareia Chevre scored a GSU career-high 29 points (18 points in the second half) and Angelique Cowan scored 23 to lead the Jaguars, now 14-3 on the season and 8-1 in the CCAC.
The Jaguars used solid second quarter defense to outscore the host Saints 15-3 over the final six minutes of the quarter to go ahead 38-29 at the break.
The two teams had four lead changes and three ties in a back and forth first quarter with Holy Cross (8-9, 5-4 CCAC) leading 19-18 after ten minutes.
GSU was led by Cowan with 12 first half points, Chevre scored 11 markers and Tabetha Jones scored 8 points in the first twenty minutes and Jones scored 11 points overall in the win.
Holy Cross closed the Jaguars lead to four points in the second half but Chevre hit two key three-pointers to push the GSU lead back up to double digits.
The Jaguars scored a season-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to win going away and GSU will be getting ready next for a home game at the ARC, Saturday 1 p.m. vs. Trinity Christian.
In the game, GSU shot 28-57 field goals (49%) led by Chevre 9-13, and a team-high 8 rebounds, and 4 steals in her second straight 20+ point game (had 22 points at St. Francis).
