FINAL FIVE MINUTE RUN CLINCHES CCAC 2^nd PLACE STANDING - 5 Players Score In Double Figures

Governors State University Jaguars won their 22^nd game of the season with a solid fourth quarter finish to beat IU Northwest 75-62 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday night.

The impressive road win for the Jaguars (22-5, 16-3 CCAC) solidifies a second place regular season finish in the conference and GSU will be hosting a home playoff game Tuesday night, February 27 at the GSU ARC.

GSU out-scored the Redhawks 17-4 in the final 5 minutes of the game breaking a 58-58 tie with the go-ahead driving layup and free throw by Angelique Cowan giving the Jaguars a 61-58 lead with 5:09 remaining.

Team defensive play and pin-point passing highlighted the final 5 minutes with Gaetana Davis and Tabetha Jones both hitting two key baskets in the final winning run for the Jaguars.

Cowan scored 15 points in the first half to help GSU battle a first half home scoring spree by the Redhawks and CCAC scoring leader Jessica Carrothers (28.5 avg.) who scored 18 in the first 20 minutes for a 35-34 IU Northwest halftime margin.

The Jaguars' third quarter saw GSU go up by 10 points - 58-48 - after out-scoring the hosts 23-14 in the quarter.

IU Northwest (16-11, 12-7 CCAC) scored ten straight points to open the fourth quarter and tie the game at 58 before GSU's late winning finish.

Cowan led the Jaguars with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and four other players scored in doubles for Governors State.

Da'Naria Washington scored 16 points, 4 rebounds. Davis scored 11 points, 8 rebounds, Jones had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 dimes and Zareia Chevre had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists.

Next up for GSU is Senior Day game and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Game, Saturday 1 PM, February 24 vs. Holy Cross College in the GSU ARC.
