JAGUARS BEAT ST. XAVIER 65-50 - UNBEATEN 3-0 IN CCAC CONFERENCE PLAY - HOST D2 INDIANAPOLIS NEXT AT THE ARC, Tuesday, December 5, 5 PM
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL - Governors State University won its third straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game beating St. Xavier 65-50 to remain unbeaten 3-0 in CCAC action.
A solid team performance keyed by season scoring leader Tabetha Jones with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and Zareia Chevre 15 points, 5 rebounds to beat the Cougars in the GSU ARC Saturday.
GSU jumped out to 21-7 first quarter lead hitting 3-5 three-pointers and 8-10 free throws for the double-digit lead after ten minutes.
Nine Jaguar players scored points and Da'Naria Washington 6 points, 6 rebounds, 5 asists, 4 steals and Angelique Cowan 5 points, 5 asists, 4 rebounds. Both were all-around performers joining the scoring leaders Jones and Chevre in statistical leaders for GSU.
Jones hit 12-13 free throws and the team shot a game-season high 18-20 FTs (90%) in the win.
Gaetana Davis had five rebounds and a steal,
Enija Brown-Griffin had five rebounds and Trinity Sims two blocked shots in the team win.
The Jaguars next play Division II University of Indianapolis - Tuesday, Dec. 5, 5 PM in the ARC. UIndy
(5-3, 3-1 GLVC Conference) who played #6 Drury to the wire losing 78-70 Saturday in Indy. One of UIndy's other losses this season was to D2 #1 Ashland University (OH) last month. GSU (6-2 overall) also plays this week back into CCAC Conference play on Saturday, December 9, 1 pm at Judson University.
